GENERAL SUMMARY:

United Way of Southern Maine (UWSM) is seeking an ambitious, highly organized multi-tasker with experience in fundraising, program management, and volunteer management. A passion for donor engagement and community impact is a must!

Under the supervision of the Director, Donor Engagement, this part-time (20 hours/ week) position is responsible for the overall program leadership of UWSM’s Brick & Beam giving circle with an emphasis on growth through fundraising with individuals and organizations to support UWSM’s strategic plan, which will advance our community goals, Thrive2027

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Brick and Beam Program Management – 90%

This role serves as the staff leader for Brick and Beam, a fundraising-focused giving circle focused on Rising Leaders. Comprised of approximately 100 members who annually invest more than $150,000 through strategic grants, Brick and Beam work aligns with Thrive2027, our community’s 10-year commitment to achieve three goals. The successful manager will collaborate closely with volunteers to:

  • Maintain and expand meaningful relationships on behalf of UWSM with Brick and Beam members and prospects to engage them in the work, with a goal of doubling annual revenue by 2027.
  • Develop a long-range strategic fundraising and impact plan that expands impact in Southern Maine.
  • Working collaboratively with other UWSM staff and Brick and Beam volunteers, plan and execute engagement activities such as volunteer projects, advocacy opportunities, social events, and other opportunities for members and friends to connect and work.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to volunteer leaders, including coordinating all Brick and Beam committee meetings and agendas, drafting minutes, and offering best practices to volunteer leaders by leveraging the United Way national network. This includes the investment committee.
  • Assist with recruitment and succession planning of crucial Brick and Beam volunteer leaders and provide overall governance guidance to ensure robust volunteer leadership of Brick and Beam that is commensurate with the program’s size and organizational resources provided to it.
  • Be the go-to point of contact to assist UWSM’s development staff with their fundraising plans to promote support of Brick and Beam with aligned corporate partners and their employees.

Other – 10%

  • Ensure Brick and Beam messaging and overall brand conform with UWSM and United Way Worldwide brand and messaging standards.
  • Actively participate as a team member of the Resource Development department.
  • Provide superior service that exceeds the expectations of both internal and external customers.
  • Volunteer and actively participate in projects and special events that support the entire organization’s work.
  • Other organizational duties as requested.
  • Demonstrate UWSM’s Core Values in all internal and external interactions.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated track record of successful fundraising with individuals
  • Commitment to the mission of United Way and community change work
  • One to three years non-profit program experience desired
  • Mastery and deep satisfaction in managing and supporting volunteers
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in English both verbally and in writing, and comfortable interacting with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability as a public speaker, able to represent UWSM and inspire audiences.
  • Must be an innovative self-starter and team player with a positive outlook and ability to manage ambiguity and change, proficient in identifying solutions and opportunities.
  • Understanding of individual fundraising best practices (such as constituent relationship management and moves management) desired.
  • Strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize one’s own time and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Maintain discretion and strong professional judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to generate reports, synthesize data and communicate findings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and virtual meeting facilitation.
  • A valid driver’s license, verifiable auto insurance, and the ability to secure personal vehicle use within 30 days of employment are required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent. Significant volunteer management or fundraising experience or equivalent is considered in lieu of a degree.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may require work during early mornings, evenings, and weekends and may occasionally require more than 20 hours per week.  At UWSM, we are focused on creating connections within the Southern Maine community. Our current hybrid model is focused on doing just that, requiring our team members to spend at least 40% of their time (8 hours for this position) creating connections. Examples of creating connections include office time, external meetings/gatherings, training, volunteer engagement events, and even a cup of coffee with an internal/external partner.
