Pop-Up: First Wednesday BYOB (Bring Your Own Book!)

  • Scales 68 Commercial Street Portland Maine (map)

Join the Brick & Beam Society Wednesday, May 1st for our 4th annual Bring Your Own Book event! Belatedly celebrating the illustrious Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Day, Brick & Beam Society is popping up from 5:30-7:00 PM at Scales (68 Commercial St, Portland, ME 04101) to support childhood literacy in our local community.

Hosted by Brick & Beam Chair Tim Griffin, and committee member Chris Larrabee, this event is FREE and open to the public. We ask that you please bring one of the books listed below, or new or gently used books in Arabic, Portuguese, and/or Somali.

In our inaugural year, Brick & Beam members and friends collected 150 books for Westbrook Schools; year 2, we broke our stretch goal of 200 books for students in local Portland elementary schools. Can we beat those numbers and fill the bookshelves with 250 books this year? Join us in booking it to get these authors’ titles in time:

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (bilingual) - Somali Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (bilingual) - Arabic Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? (bilingual) - Portuguese Farmer Duck (bilingual) - Somali Farmer Duck (bilingual) - Portuguese

These titels can be found at: https://www.languagelizard.com/ or www.amazon.com

See you there! Brick & Beam Membership & Programming Committee
