Volunteer: Summer Readers at Kennedy Park

  • Kennedy Park Community Center 58 Boyd Street Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Brick and Beam is partnering with United Way of Greater Portland to serve as Starting Strong Summer Readers at Kennedy Park’s Meals and Literacy site. This valuable program, aimed at stemming summer reading loss in students K-3rd grade, is offered at 4 of 16 summer meal sites located throughout Portland. As children finish eating their meal, Starting Strong Summer Reader volunteers invite children to read with them. They then send children home with their own free book, generously donated by the Rotary Club of Portland and Altrusa.

We are looking for 2 volunteers to join Lauren Ouellette (AmeriCorps) and Jeri Chapman, Site Coordinators, on Wednesdays from June 29 – August 17, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. You can sign up for one Wednesday, or several Wednesdays.

Please contact Jeri Chapman: 347-2337, or jchapman@unitedwaygp.org if you would like to participate.
